breakfast procrastination

My still-unwritten dissertation is stalking me... I won't be able to avoid it for much longer, but in a last-ditch procrastination effort, I'm drinking coffee and looking at these beautiful breakfast pictures from the Bowhaus flickr photostream (via daydream lily and lovelorn unicorn) - the perfect viewing 'fodder' (arf arf) for a Sunday morning:

Pink goop on toast and Coco Pops with strawberries is most definitely where it’s at.

They are very beautiful - Nordic in inspiration?

Dissertations can be avoided very easily - I didn't do one for my BA, but became an expert procrastinator on my MA and PhD.

Ironing is a particular favourite. It's so relaxing, and takes a long time to get right.

Learning to cook complicated and exotic food.

Reading more - nobody can object to a little more research.

Teach a lot, or write conference papers instead of chapters.

Restructure your entire research every time a new chapter is called for. Mine went from 'the family in French 19th-century serial novels' to 'constructions of masculinity in 1930s Welsh communist novels'. Works every time.

If all else fails, switch off your phone and e-mail. Ignore letters from your supervisors. Don't communicate with them at all unless they come round to your house and neighbours tell them you're in really. This actually happened.

Then one day, you'll find that you've rediscovered why you started in the first place, and the words will fall from your fingertips.

What's your's on?

That is indeed a radical change of dissertation topic. Very impressive! Mine is about new york dada poetry, specifically the early work of Williams Carlos Williams, and the work of the Baroness Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven.

Excellent procrastination tips, but sadly I really must stop now and get on with some Real Work...
